About
Join this course and learn about the importance of soil education and how it can be integrated in your STEM teaching. You will understand how teaching about soil health can steer your educational activities towards tackling real-life problems, integrated teaching and other innovative pedagogies. You will also learn how tackling soil health issues can help you discuss and make more relevant to your students’ life many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and EU policies.
Objectives
In this course, you will:
- research and discuss what soil is, why soil health is important for humankind and how knowledge about soil can be taught in an engaging and interdisciplinary way;
- learn how to teach and combine knowledge and practices related to different dimensions of soil health, such as the economic, societal, ethical, biological and chemical dimensions;
- apply what you have learnt by designing a learning scenario on soil health ready to be used in your day-to-day activities.
Date and registration
The course will be held online from 3 March to 9 April 2025 , with an estimated workload of 4 hours per week (22h in total).
- Module 1 opens on 03/03/2025.
- Module 2 opens on 10/03/2025.
- Module 3 opens on 17/03/2025.
- Module 4 opens on 24/03/2025.
The final deadline to complete all activities is 9 April 2025.
This course is open to primary and secondary school teachers and educators, practice-teachers, as well as formal and non-formal STEM educators.
