Seventh Science Projects Workshop in the Future Classroom Lab

The 7th Science Projects Workshop in the Future Classroom Lab, organized by Scientix, will take place in Brussels in June 2015, from Friday 19 (starting time: 19:30) to Sunday 21 (end ~14h).

Target audience: This workshop will be for STEM teachers.

Aim: To learn about different Science Education projects and resurces in the framework of European collaboration and the Future Classroom Lab of European Schoolnet. Share knowledge and tips between teachers and discuss approaches to improve the interest of students in science careers.

The programme will include:

  • Presentations and workshops from guest projects.
  • Workshops in the Future Classroom Lab

Up to 50 participants are expected to join the event:

  • 30 STEM teachers new to the international Scientix events, invited by "organizations friends of Scientix".
  • 15 Amgen Teachers.
  • Up to 10 presenters / workshop leaders.

How will the teachers be selected this time? 

Usually teachers are invited to apply and Scientix selects 20 - 30 teachers from among all applications, ensuring a country spread and a mix of discilpines and ages of the students.

For this event, the teachers will be selected by "organizations friends of Scientix". These organizations will be able to select one teacher to attend the event from their own networks, through competitions, programmes or any other selection mechanism.

If your organization would like to be one of the 30 "friends of Scientix", please fill in the form you will find on the right column.

Scientix will confirm organizations if they have been approved as a friend of Scientix within 3 working days of submitting the form. If approved, the organization will need to provide the full name and email of the teacher to Agueda Gras (agueda.gras AT eun.org) by the end of May.

For the selected teachers, Scientix will cover the flight to/from Brussels, the hotel for the nights of Friday and Saturday, and all meals from Friday night to Sunday lunch included. Local transport, travel to/from airport, and health insurance are at the participants' expenses.

Deadline for organizations to apply: Monday 4th of May 2015. Or until all 30 organizations have been selected (whichever is first).

Type of organizations elgible to become "friends of Scientix": Teacher training organizations, Science education research institutions (working directly with teachers), Science Education centres, Teachers' associations, etc.

Non-eligible: Scientix National Contact Points, Schools, individual teachers...

European association of Teachers (Malta Section) - AEDE (Malta)
AEDE (Malta) is the Malta Section of the Association Européen des Enseignants (AEDE) – European Association of Teachers.  AEDE (Malta) will select the "awarded" teacher through a competitive process which will be given the widest possible exposure. More information at the AEDE (Malta) website.

Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRi)
The key goals of the FCRi are to promote science education in schools and to bring science to the marketplace. As a private foundation with public support, we have a unique ability to build a dynamic, innovative ecosystem between public and private agents, and to be involved in the development of science and society in Catalonia and beyond. Interdisciplinary Network of Special and Intercultural Education INCLUDE Foundation
Members of INCLUDE are experts from different scientific areas with specialization and interest in education of SEN children. INCLUDE has experience in planning and implementing educational interventions with SEN and typical students, their teachers and parents. Educational objectives, among others, from INCLUDE’s action-model applied are: learning basic science concepts, programming/coding using applications (apps) in smartphones/tablets and familiarity with robotics. PLATAFORMA ESPAÑOLA DE ASOCIACIONES DEL PROFESORADO DE TECNOLOGÍA (PEAPT)
The PEAPT is the Spanish Plattform of Asociactions of Teachers of Technology (IT, Design & Technology). PEAPT will organize a competition with all the associates (Teachers all around Spain). Teachers will have to send PEAPT their cv and prepare a presentation or powerpoint about STEM classes in Technology. The jury (at least 5 members of the Association) will select the "awarded" teacher. More information at the PEAPT website.

CESIRE. Departament d'Ensenyament
CESIRE is a Specific Educational Resource Center for Innovation and Educational Research. Its purpose is to make research in teaching and education to promote and disseminate the results and adapt them to the needs of teachers. Also designs and distributes activities and resources that help teachers in their innovative work. CESIRE will select teachers taking into account their interest and practice in STEM resources, their relationship with working groups or teacher training of the CESIRE. CSIRE will ask them to plan a STEAM project in his/her school and will select the "winning" teacher with the best project. More information at the CESIRE website.

Association of IT teachers of Macedonia / Здружение на информатичарите на Македонија
The Association of IT teachers of Macedonia (Здружение на информатичарите на Македонија) encourages the application of information technology in all areas of society. They organize seminars, courses, workshops, training for the purpose of promoting the knowledge of IT teachers. Their license allows them to organize competitions of information technology in primary, secondary schools and university competitions. They will choose the teacher from the teachers that will participate with their students in the National competition of information technology. The teacher whose student will achieve the highest score on the competition will be offered to attend the workshop. More information at the their website.

Museos Científicos Coruñeses
This Science Education center includes three houses to live science: House of Science, Domus and Aquarium finisterrae. It is a public funded institution with 30 years of active life communicating science. Its premise is "Without science there is no culture". The organization will select the teachers among those that bring most students to the Open Lab, placed in Domus. More information at the their website.

School of Education, University of Nicosia, Cyprus
The University of Nicosia is the largest private university in Cyprus. The School of Education offers 4-year bachelor degrees in Primary and Pre-primary Education, 2-year MA degrees in Education and a 3-year PhD program in Education. The University of Nicosia will announce the event to all the graduate students of the School of Education. Some of the graduate students are already teaching in schools and are studying towards their MA or PhD, whilst others are working as researchers while studying for their MA or PhD, and envision to work as teachers when they graduate. Candidates will provide one page explaining why they want to participate, how they can contribute to the international and national community, and how their participation might help them with their teaching and research. A committee with three members (Head of the Department and two science educators) will decide based on the essay, and a personal interview if necessary. More information at the their website.

Agency for Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary Education Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Agency for Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary Education's scope of work is aimed at ensuring the quality education in Bosnia & Herzegovina through establishing the standards on learning achievements, evaluating the achieved results and developing the common core curricula in pre-primary, primary and secondary education. The Agency will announce a public call trough their national networks and official webpage asking interested teachers to describe their previous engagements and training, as well as their motivation and ideas for dissemination of gained experiences. Institute of Science Education at the University of Bremen and Bremen-Oldenburg Chemistry In-Service Teacher Training Centre
The Institute for Science Education at the University of Bremen is an internationally recognized research centre in science education. The Institute educates science teachers for primary and secondary education. They host the Bremen-Oldenburg Chemsitry In-Service Teacher Training Centre for North-Western Germany funded by the Geman Chemical Society. The Institute works with many teacher groups in projects of curriculum development and action research. They will circulate the call around their teacher networks. SOCIETAT D'EDUCACIÓ MATEMÀTICA DE LA COMUNITAT VALENCIANA AL-KHWARIZMI
This society is a nonprofit institution composed of mathematics teachers, nursery, primary, secondary and university. Their activities focus on encouraging the disclosure mathematics,teacher training and popularization activities of mathematics with students. Among the most popular is the Mathematical Olympiad, the days of mathematics education for teachers, math contest photography, ESTALMAT project, the Kangaroo test, etc. The contest will be exhibited through their website where aspiring teachers will send a work project. The project should focus on a proposal to broadcast a particular aspect of mathematics. More information at their website.

The Teachers Education Centre in Bialystok (TEC)
The key goals of the TEC are preparation and realisation of programmes for continuous training of managing staff, methodical consultants, workers of supervising departments, schools and educational institutions and preparation and realisation of teacher training programmes. The TEC publishes the magazine „Informator CEN” (“Information of TEC”), which comes out once a year, methodical editions on various topics as well as „Warsztatowa oferta konsultanta” (every 3 months), which contains propositions of different courses for teachers. The ‘awarded’ teacher will be selected from the STEM teachers that will participate in the special event called ‘Szkoła Dobrych Praktyk’ and take part in the competition ‘Science or Magic?’ More information at their website.

ANISN - National Association of Natural Sciences Teachers
ANISN is a non profit Association with more than 2000 members (science teachers, trainers, scientists, didactic researchers) organized in 26 local sections distributed in Italian regions. ANISN activities include designing, supporting, implementing didactic resources; organizing working groups, national and local teacher training courses, seminars and meetings, all based on strongly motivated members that aim to improve and support continuously the “teaching profession” and the quality and dissemination of Scientific Education in Italy. Παγκύπρια Οργάνωση Ελλήνων Δασκάλων (POED)
POED is the official organization of Cyprus representing the teachers of primary education and pre-primary education, member of ETUC and EI. It consists of 6000 members who work in the public schools of Cyprus. It works for the rights and the professional development of its members. Podružnica matematičara Valjevo
This Society of Mathematicians of Serbia, subsociety of Valjevo, wants to influence the progress and promotion of mathematics and computer science and their applications. It encourages its members to actively participate in activities of common interest of the profession, professional development and improving the quality of teaching of mathematics at all levels of education, and are engaged in discovering, nurturing and developing gifted young mathematicians. The organization will select the teacher from an internal competition of presentations of innovations in teaching mathematics and connecting mathematics with other sciences. Science Culture Educational Center - "Aristotelio"
The Center is a non profit organization which aims to build a multi-facet and multi-level environment through targeted holistic scientific educational interventions of formal and non formal education. The Center puts emphasis on STEM education for young ages students, but it simultaneously aims at the formation of experiences by training also teachers and parents through spiral, constant lifelong learning and education. The "Center" will announce a competition. All teachers will be informed in detail about the competition through mails which will be sent from educational authorities via official network. Osrodek Edukacji Informatycznej i Zastosowan Komputerow w Warszawie (OEIiZK)
This Computer Assisted Education and Information Technology Centre in Warsaw is a public institution for teachers' improvement managed by the Mazovian Province Local Government. Its goal is to improve and support teachers in the field of computer assisted education and educational applications of the information technology. OEIiZK develops and implements new: methods of teaching, programs of improvement and additional schooling, teaching equipment, methodological publications, informatics tools for learning and teaching. It organises ICT and computer science courses for teachers. Teacher consultants will be asked to review the Scientix portal and choose one project or educational material which is the most valuable (excluding projects and materials submitted by the institution). The teachers will present these projects or materials during a seminar and the presentations will be assessed by all colleagues. The most voted will be invited to join the Brussels event. Universidad de Burgos (UBU)
The University of Burgos is a Higher Education Institution committed with STEM promotion from primary to high school students in the Region of Castilla and León. It offers several Education degrees and has a Department of Experimental Sciences Didactic. The The UBU promotes Scientific Culture with and from Society via the communication and dissemination of scientific results produced by UBU researchers and the dissemination and promotion of STEM vocations among young students from primary to high school. It organizes competions for all Castilla and León like UBUTalent, a coaching program for young students with high talent capabilities. The winning teacher will be selected from among the teachers that coached students to participate in the UBU's 1st Science and Technological Students Exhibition and Competition. The selection will be done by: a Spanish Scientix representative, a member of the Regional Education Ministry, a university professor from the Experimental Sciences Didcactics, and a member from Scientific Culture Unit of the University. Criteria: evaluation of the experiments presented in the exhibition together with the Curriculum vitae of the teachers related to the promotion of STEM. More information at their website.

Casa Corpului Didactic
This Bucharest Teacher Training Center is an active and innovative resource center oriented to personal training and development of employees of the education system in Bucharest. Through the diversity of activities, Bucharest Teacher Training is a promoter of change, a real space integration of Bucharest’s school education in a European context. Bucharest Teacher Training is working in a partnership that includes academic societies and governmental and non-governmental organizations. The STEM teacher will be selected from those interested in continuous improvement, with enthusiasm in disseminating the information, with access to training as many other teachers as possible in projects and activities. Generalitat de Catalunya
The Department of Education is thoroughly involved in the mSchools programme and it is within this context that we will choose our participant teacher. The mSchools programme is a multi-faceted mEducation initiative by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona, in collaboration with the Generalitat of Catalonia, Barcelona City Hall and GSMA. On June 5th, a contest called 'Concurs Apps - Mobilitzem la informàtica' will be held in order to choose the winning ideas for developing an app. Out of 20 invited teachers, there will be 7 finalists. On the same day of the competition, following the official act, the TAC area from the Department of Education will inform the 7 finalists of the possibility to participate in the Scientix event in Brussels and will choose one teacher to join the Scientix event. GSMA (GSM Association)
The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, uniting nearly 800 operators with more than 250 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and Internet companies, as well as organisations in adjacent industry sectors. In order to select the winning teacher, a draw will be held. Requirements for being chosen: 1. To be one of the finalists of the Mobile App Awards; 2. To be either (a) a primary school teacher (b) a secondary STEM teacher; 3. To have a good level of working English and 4.
