Description: This webinar was organized by the NBS Academy and Scientix® projects.


This webinar invites you to explore how nature-based solutions (NBS) can be meaningfully integrated into CPD programs for in-service teachers. You will hear from experienced professionals across Europe who are actively working in the field of teacher training and sustainability.

 

Expect tips and strategies and inspiring examples of how to introduce NBS to CPD programmes, all tailored to the needs of educators already in the field. Whether you are a teacher trainer, or an educator willing to or already mentoring peers, you will walk away with valuable insights to support a more nature-connected and sustainable approach to education.

This event is part of the MOOC "Nature-based Solutions: Training Approaches for Educators and Teacher Trainers" organised by NBS Academy and supported by Scientix®.

 

SPEAKERS

 

  • Maria Evagorou: Maria Evagorou is an Professor at the Department of Education, University of Nicosia, Cyprus and the founder of the InSSTER Research Center. Her scholarly activity focuses on exploring and enhancing young students’ and pre-service teachers’ argumentation skills, especially within socioscientific issues (SSI). Through the engagement with SSI Maria aims to promote responsible citizenship. Her most recent work is also focusing on STEM education, with an emphasis on interdisciplinarity, and supporting girls in science. Maria has worked as a principal investigator and senior researcher on various EU and local projects, served as a member of the editorial board on several science education and STEM education journals, and as a strand coordinator for ESERA. She was recently elected to serve as a board member for the European Science Education Research Association. She has published widely in international referred journals and co-edited a book titled Science Teacher Education for Responsible Citizenship.
  • Efstathia Koitsanou:Ms. Efstathia Koitsanou has a bachelor’s degree in Ichthyology and a master’s degree in Sustainable Management of Aquatic Environment from University of Thessaly. She has participated in European funded programs as well as in various volunteer work dedicated to the conservation of the marine environment and education. She also has a teaching degree from the School of Pedagogical and Technological Education (ASPETE). She is now employed as a project manager by the Center for European Projects (CEP) University of Thessaly in the various project initiatives providing her research capacity for the needs and the requirements of the different tasks and activities.
  • Maria Gallo: Dr Maria Gallo, is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Social Innovation at the Trinity Business School, Trinity College Dublin. She is the author of The Alumni Way: Building Lifelong Value from Your University Investment published by Policy Press. She has over 20 years’ experience in higher education leadership roles in Canada and Ireland with extensive academic publications in philanthropy. She is the former expert alumni advisor of CERN, Switzerland. She worked on the NBS EduWorld Horizon Europe project, including most recently as Principal Investigator on this project. In 2025, Maria was a co-winner of the Trinity Sustainability Leadership Award.
