NBS Academy Webinar: "How to Make Nature-Based Solutions Fit Into Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Programmes"

Description: This webinar was organized by the NBS Academy and Scientix® projects.
This webinar invites you to explore how nature-based solutions (NBS) can become a core part of teacher training. Together with experts from across Europe, we unpack how ITE programmes can equip future educators with tools, mindsets, and inspiration to integrate NBS into everyday teaching practices.
When you complete the webinar, you will walk away with tips of introducing NBS to ITE programmes, as well as strategies and insights to better prepare pre-service teachers for today’s environmental and educational challenges.
This event is part of the MOOC "Nature-based Solutions: Training Approaches for Educators and Teacher Trainers" organised by NBS Academy and supported by Scientix®.
SPEAKERS
- Christina Galani : Christina Galani has studied Political Science at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and she holds a master’s degree in ‘Philosophy, Politics and Economics in Med’ from the University of Bari Aldo Modo. In the last 5 years she works as Project Manager and Researcher at Stimmuli for Social Change. Christina is the project coordinator of NBS Academy and she is also actively involved in the implementation of several Erasmus+ educational projects (KA2, KA3, Youth, Knowledge Alliances) in a variety cutting-edge, educational topics and field, such as: climate change education and eco-citizenship in HE, green and soft skills development, nature-based-solutions in in education, inclusive education, gender equality in social entrepreneurship, digitalization of social economy education, women empowerment in climate action. Christina is also experienced in the organisation of hackathon events and diffusion of innovative pedagogies and methodologies (e.g., Design Thinking, Living labs methodology) in school and university curricula.
- Dawn Sanders: Dawn Sanders is an associate professor in biology didactics at Gothenburg University, Sweden. Her research focuses on human relationships with plants, specifically in educational contexts. Her doctoral study examined botanic gardens as environments for learning. She leads the Swedish team that work with the ERASMUS NBS teacher Academy.
- Maria Evagorou: Maria Evagorou is an Professor at the Department of Education, University of Nicosia, Cyprus and the founder of the InSSTER Research Center. Her scholarly activity focuses on exploring and enhancing young students’ and pre-service teachers’ argumentation skills, especially within socioscientific issues (SSI). Through the engagement with SSI Maria aims to promote responsible citizenship. Her most recent work is also focusing on STEM education, with an emphasis on interdisciplinarity, and supporting girls in science. Maria has worked as a principal investigator and senior researcher on various EU and local projects, served as a member of the editorial board on several science education and STEM education journals, and as a strand coordinator for ESERA. She was recently elected to serve as a board member for the European Science Education Research Association. She has published widely in international referred journals and co-edited a book titled Science Teacher Education for Responsible Citizenship.
- Sophia Sergiou: Sophia Sergiou currently works at the InSSTER, UNIC as a researcher for the European-funded program NBS Academy and as a teaching assistant at the University of Cyprus, teaching courses related to Environmental and Sustainability education for primary and pre-primary education. In NBS Academy, Sophia brings her expertise in designing and implementing educational materials related to environmental and sustainability issues. Sophia holds a bachelor’s degree in Primary Education and an M.A. in Environmental and Sustainability Education. Her research interests primarily focus on the education of pre-service and in-service teachers in relation to environmental and sustainability issues.
