Description
STEM education is widely recognized as essential for any country to maintain its economic viability, due to its direct connections to innovation, economic growth, and productivity (A.P. Carnevale, N. Smith, 2011). The time has come to rethink education, make investments in it, particularly in STEM fields, and better prepare children of all ages for the global issues that our world will confront both now and in the future for workforce. In this century, employers around the world are searching for students who are proficient in these content fields as pathways to college and career readiness. We need to raise interest in STEAM education to raise qualified generations for future employment. However, there is a low interest and success in STEAM subjects in most EU countries (OECD, 2022 results). Thus, the first priority of the project is to promote interest and excellence in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, STEAM approach.
Our horizontal priority is to address digital transformation that is a must in the 21st century in digitized world. Through intersectoral partnership, we desire to enhance digital literacy, readiness, resilience and capacity to achieve a much more effective transition to digital learning, To do that, the project will ensure school education digital transformation with STEAM education integrated through 3D printing technology within and outside the partnership. 3D printing technology can raise interest in STEAM subjects by contributing to a wide range of curricula, contents, and contexts which makes appealing for pervasive, ubiquitous adoption.
The project additional priority is to support teachers and educators to develop teaching materials and practices with STEAM education integrated with 3D printing technology and 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, questioning, analyzing, evaluating and problem skills. Teachers are the core of the classroom and they need to update and reshape teaching practices to meet learners' needs with the necessities of the 21st century in the workforce.
However, the teachers are limited in STEAM implementations in a way of applying multidisciplinary approach.They need to reshape their traditional way teaching and apply practices that sets STEAM mindset in students. The project will provide staff trainings and educational resources to strengthen teachers practices by 3D printing technology focused with STEAM education.
All in all, we desire to reshape our curricula, get support through cooperating at EU level with inter-sectoral partnership and raising interest in STEAM subjects by applying 3D printing technology. To do so, delivering teaching-learning resources in STEAM education integrated in 3D design and printing technology to enhance education and career opportunities for students, and addressing displayed skills gaps within and outside the partnership.
