G-STEAM
Description
G-STEAM is a European initiative that empowers educators to foster gender-inclusive and intersectional teaching in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Funded by the Erasmus+ Teacher Academies programme, the project unites universities, teacher training providers, schools, and research organisations from 9 countries to co-create innovative solutions for teacher education.
Through the establishment of a European Community of Practice, G-STEAM offers training for teacher trainers, co-designed teaching toolkits, blended mobility schemes, a joint online course, and many more activities—all aimed at transforming STEAM education into amore inclusive and engaging experience for all learners.
Funded by the European Union (Grant Agreement No.101196677). Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or of the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). G-STEAM will generate research-based knowledge on gender-inclusive and intersectional STEAM teacher education across Europe. The project explores existing approaches within Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD), identifying current challenges, gaps, and promising practices related to gender equality in STEAM education. Through comparative research activities, stakeholder consultation, and the collection of educational practices, the project aims to strengthen understanding of how teacher education can better support inclusive and equitable STEAM learning environments.
The project will produce a series of reports, analyses, and evidence-based resources focusing on gender-responsive pedagogy, teacher training methodologies, mentoring practices, and innovative educational approaches. Research findings emerging from the development and piloting of the G-STEAM educational tools and training activities will contribute to recommendations for integrating gender and intersectionality perspectives into teacher education and educational policy.
G-STEAM also aims to support the wider research community by disseminating its findings through scientific publications, conferences, academic exchanges, and collaboration with researchers and educational institutions. The project contributes to ongoing European discussions on inclusive education, gender equality, and innovation in STEAM teaching and learning.
Papers
G-STEAM provides teachers, teacher educators, and future educators with practical training activities and innovative teaching materials designed to promote gender-inclusive and intersectional approaches in STEAM education. The project combines pedagogy, creativity, digital innovation, and social inclusion to help educators create more equitable learning environments and encourage greater participation of girls and underrepresented groups in STEAM fields.
The project develops a comprehensive G-STEAM Toolbox containing educational resources, lesson plans, classroom activities, pedagogical guidelines, and ready-to-use teaching materials that can be adapted to different educational contexts. These materials support teachers in integrating gender-sensitive methodologies into STEAM subjects while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and student engagement.
Teachers participating in the project also benefit from training workshops, mentoring activities, blended learning opportunities, and communities of practice where they can exchange experiences, share good practices, and collaborate with peers across Europe. The project promotes hands-on, participatory, and inclusive teaching approaches that help educators address stereotypes, build student confidence, and create supportive STEAM learning experiences for all learners.
In addition, G-STEAM offers access to online resources, examples of innovative educational practices, and guidance on implementing inclusive STEAM education both in formal and non-formal learning settings.
