TRAVEŠA.HR - Traditional Apron as Heritage, Education, and Sustainable Tourism Product
Description
The Traveša.hr project is a student-led initiative at Secondary School Ivana Meštrovića Drniš, Croatia, involving 16 first-year vocational students from the Business Economics and Administrative Assistant streams.
The project focuses on creating an authentic traditional apron ("Traveša") inspired by folk costume patterns from the Drniš region, designed as a sustainable, lightweight tourist souvenir. Students research local cultural and ethnographic heritage through field visits to the Ethnographic Museum Split, Ethnographic Museum Zagreb, National Park Krka, and the cultural platform Europeana, then digitally process their findings using Canva, Word, and Webnode.
The project integrates vocational curriculum modules including Business Communication, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, and Foreign Language, connecting formal education with real-world business activities. Students also conduct drawing workshops for preschool children at Kindergarten Drniš, promoting intergenerational cultural transmission.
At the end of the project, students go on local radio to speak about the project and, together with partners, create an event in National Park Krka where they present all activities and products to the local community and children from Kindergarten Drniš.

The project investigates how locally rooted cultural heritage can be systematically documented, digitally processed, and transformed into an economically viable and environmentally responsible tourist product.
Students conduct structured ethnographic research using institutional sources (Ethnographic Museum Zagreb, Ethnographic Museum Split, National Park Krka, and the Europeana digital platform), alongside primary fieldwork, including family collections of traditional garments, interviews, and photography.
The research explores the intersection of heritage preservation, sustainable tourism development, and vocational competency acquisition. Findings are synthesised into a collaborative e-book publication and evaluated using a mixed-methods approach:
- Quantitative: Likert-scale surveys (1–5) and participation metrics
- Qualitative: Reflective conversations, portfolio review, and partner feedback
- Digital visibility metrics: web analytics, social media engagement, and video views
Results will be published as a professional article on the national education portal www.skole.hr.
