PERMASCHOOL- Applying PERMAculture as a pedagogical tool for building healthy SCHOOL ecosystems
Description
PermaSchool is an Erasmus+ project that uses permaculture to empower educators and students to engage in climate action. It aims to improve educators’ skills and students’ understanding of permaculture and environmental sustainability.
Through transnational and cross-sectoral collaboration, the project bridges the gap between policy, research, and practice, fostering a hands-on approach to environmental education. Its overall mission is to encourage behavioural change towards climate action and to promote political engagement through dialogue and participatory co-creation.
Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Neither the European Union nor EACEA can be held responsible for them.

PermaSchool’s research focuses on how permaculture principles can be integrated into educational systems to support sustainability and climate literacy.
The project gathers insights from educators, environmental experts, and students across Europe to co-design innovative educational materials and tools.
Reports and research outputs will contribute to bridging theoretical approaches with practical, community-based climate action, providing evidence for the effectiveness of permaculture-based pedagogy.
These findings aim to support policy recommendations and to ensure the long-term impact and sustainability of the project throughout Europe.
Papers
PermaSchool develops a wide range of activities and educational resources designed to support teachers in embedding permaculture in their classrooms:
Co-Creation Panel: A group of 20 experts, teachers, and students collaborating to design educational materials.
PermaSchool Curriculum: Integration of permaculture and sustainability principles into school learning programs.
PermaSchool Hub & Activity Planning Tool: An open, multilingual online platform offering resources and tools for educators and students.
Transnational Teacher Training: A 5-day training course equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills to teach permaculture and sustainability.
Student Lessons: National sessions introducing permaculture concepts through participatory learning.
PermaSchool Student Projects: Practical, student-led projects applying permaculture principles in real-world contexts.
Interschool PermaSchool Fairs: Student-led events to showcase permaculture projects and promote knowledge exchange.
