About
"If we destroy nature, nature will destroy us" - Wangari Maathai
Welcome to the Exploring Nature-Based Solutions in your Classroom and Beyond MOOC, where you will explore the implementation of nature-based solutions in classrooms through ready-to-use learning scenarios.
We are increasingly becoming aware of environmental issues, and its impact on our societies and everyday life. Teachers are trying to form informed and active students, who will work and build with nature, instead of in separation from it. However, the educational potential of nature-based solutions (NBS) remains largely unexplored, whilst innovative programmes and resources around NBS are currently missing from formal and informal education programmes for children and families.
Objectives
In this course, you will:
- Explore what NBS are, by engaging with state-of-the-art resources, e.g. GreenComp, building a strong theoretical foundation for future implementations.
- Discover a range of resources, tools, and strategies to help integrate NBS in your school community.
- Examine NBS learning scenarios created by expert teachers for inspiration from their best practices.
- Reflect on your current approaches by engaging with teachers from all over Europe and beyond, brainstorming new ideas and methods.
- Create your own NBS learning scenario and review peers’ work, improving the quality of your learning scenario through feedback.
Date and registration
The course will be held online from 13 January to 19 February 2025 , with an estimated workload of 5 hours per week (25h in total).
- Module 1 opens on 13/01/2025.
- Module 2 opens on 20/01/2025.
- Module 3 opens on 27/01/2025.
- Module 4 opens on 03/02/2025.
The final deadline to complete all activities is 19 February 2025.
This course is open to all but would be predominantly valuable for teachers of primary and secondary education levels, wishing to explore NBS and sustainability with their students inside and outside their classrooms and schools.
