From 7 to 11 September 2026, the education and environmental sustainability community comes together for the first Scientix® Environmental Sustainability Education Community Gathering, organised with the BUSTIC EDU (Building Sustainability Competences in Education) project.

The Community Gathering will include week-long online discussions across several platforms (polls, chats, and social media exchanges), two public webinars, and a closed meeting with European Schoolnet's Ministries of Education STEM Working Group. Each session addresses a distinct aspect of environmental sustainability learning and teaching.

This week brings together teachers, teacher educators, school leaders, researchers, and policymakers around a shared goal: bringing environmental sustainability into classrooms and schools across Europe.

What's the plan?

Launch (Monday, 7 September)

Get ready for the launch of the Community Gathering poster! On the poster, you will discover everything you can do to bring Environmental Sustainability to your community. This day will also be your starting moment to engage with the BUSTIC EDU community: take part in the poll on the Scientix Community Tool, join the discussion on the STEM School Label thread, and share your own lessons and experiences on the Community Gathering's Padlet! And last but not least, don’t miss the Scientix TV episode on the Scientix Environmental Sustainability Collection on our social media profiles!

Advancing Sustainability in Education and Training: A Multi-Dimensional Approach (Tuesday, 8 September, 16:00–17:00 CEST)

This webinar, developed within the BUSTIC EDU’s framework, brings together key stakeholders from across Europe to exchange knowledge, share recent policy developments, present emerging research and innovative teaching practices, and discuss current opportunities and challenges in embedding sustainability within education. Register here!

From GreenComp to the Classroom: The Teacher Trainers' Perspective (Wednesday, 9 September, 14:00–14:45 CEST)

The panel discussion brings teacher trainers' perspectives in the week-long discussions. It explores concrete approaches to adapting Green Competences into practical lessons for students of all levels, and the implications for pre-service or in-service training. Register here!

Teacher Exchange: Sustainable School Actions in Practice (Friday, 11 September, 16:00–17:30 CEST)

What does sustainability look like in the classroom? In this session, teachers from across Europe share what happened when they brought the Scientix® Environmental Sustainability Collection into their classrooms: what worked, what they needed to adapt, and how their students responded. Register here!

Don’t worry if you can’t attend one of the events! A two-page written summary of the week, covering lessons learned, highlights, and results from all discussions, will be shared through the Scientix® Digest at the end of September.

Environmental Sustainability is a shared commitment. From one classroom to across Europe, what can the Education Community do? Join the webinars, the panel discussion and teacher exchange this September and be part of the answer!
