TINKER 2025: Training Teachers and Transforming Informatics Education Across Europe
The TINKER project (2024–2026) is transforming how informatics is taught in upper primary and lower secondary schools. Its mission is to help teachers design authentic, engaging, and gender-inclusive learning experiences that connect classroom lessons with real-world contexts.
In collaboration with Scientix®, the project promotes inclusive practices that foster diverse, student-centred classrooms.
The TINKER Pedagogical Framework
At the heart of the project is the TINKER Pedagogical Framework, which integrates four key pillars for a holistic approach to informatics education:
- Informatics areas and competencies
- Authentic learning
- Gender inclusion
- Teacher and professional learning
Resources Already Available for Teachers on Scientix®
Educators across Europe can already benefit from a rich set of TINKER resources from our resource repository:
- TINKER Framework and Toolkit → practical analysis, methodology, and 108 ready-to-use classroom scenarios.
- Transnational Report on State of the Art and Needs → mapping informatics policies and practices in six partner countries.
- Trainer’s Handbook and Training Course Modules → designed to prepare and support Master Trainers.
So far, more than 100 educators from Italy, Croatia, Greece, Cyprus, the Netherlands, and Ireland have completed intensive five-day workshops to become TINKER Master Trainers. These ambassadors are now guiding colleagues in applying TINKER principles to create inclusive, future-ready classrooms.
What’s Coming Next?
Teachers can look forward to even more opportunities and resources in the coming months:
- September – November 2025: TINKER Master Trainers will train over 300 teachers across their national contexts.
- March 2026: A MOOC will launch on the European Schoolnet Academy platform.
