What’s BUSTIC EDU about?

BUSTIC EDU is working to bring the European Sustainability Competence Framework (GreenComp) into early childhood, primary, and secondary education across Europe. The project will design, test, and refine a “Sustainability in Education” Programme that helps schools integrate sustainability competences, knowledge, skills, and values. These efforts will help in encouraging students to act responsibly and with care for our planet.

Why does this project matter for teachers?

We know teachers want practical tools and support to bring sustainability into their teaching. BUSTIC EDU is designed with exactly that in mind. Over the next 3 years, the project will:

  • Develop ready-to-use teaching and learning materials: learning scenarios, action plans, and lesson resources to help integrate GreenComp into your subject or school level.
  • Offer professional development opportunities: webinars, a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) open to all teachers, and workshops where you can learn new approaches and share experiences with peers across Europe.
  • Create guidelines for teachers and school leaders: with concrete tips and examples on how to include sustainability topics in everyday practice.
  • Pilot in 60 schools across 5 countries (Italy, Malta, Serbia, Spain, Türkiye) with feedback from teachers directly shaping the final resources.

What is next?

The first big outputs, teaching materials, the MOOC, and the Sustainability in Education Programme, will start rolling out in 2026. In the meantime, the BUSTIC EDU team is analysing gaps and needs in sustainability education, so the resources you get will be both relevant and practical.
