Dublin West Education Centre – IrelandDublin West Education Centre (DWEC) promotes the continuing professional development of over 6,000 teachers and educational partners within the Dublin West area and provides support to teachers, schools, principals, Boards of Management and other school personnel. Dublin West Education Centre has been a full time Education Centre since 1991. DWEC is Ireland’s busiest Education centre and runs National programmes such as the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST), Literacy and Numeracy, DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools), Creative and Digital National and European programmes and awards, STEM/STEAM initiatives and several other National and International creativities and partnerships run by the Government of Ireland, the European Union, international organisations and other statutory, education bodies. The Centre is one of an inter-linked national network of 21 full-time, Education Centres and is a member of ESCI, Education Support Centres of Ireland. DWEC plays a leading role in the management of national support services and programmes and in the establishment of Teacher Professional Communities of practice and in building capacity in the National CPD system since 1991 and as such is today recognised as one of the most progressive and transformative education centres in Ireland. DWEC continues to be innovative in the areas of blended and On-Line teaching and learning, CPD, STEM/STEAM, Curriculum innovation, Creativity in the Arts, iTechnologies, Sustainability, Substance Misuse, Wellness, DEIS ( Disdavantaged School communities), 21 century literacies, ICT and Home School Community Liaison, etc. Its participation in the WiMi European Project, among others, has had the effect of connecting a large number of Irish teachers and pupils to their European counterparts. |
