Almost 90 teachers from 32 countries gathered at the beginning of December in Brussels to kick-start the Scientix Teacher Panel. The teachers - selected through an open call - will work as Scientix Ambassadors and Deputy Ambassadors in their countries, informing their peers about Scientix and how to get involded.
At the first meeting, organised in two rounds in the first two weekends in December, the teachers got to know each other and learned about the aims and plans of Scientix and their role in it. The Scientix Project Officer, Dr Maria Korda, representing the European Commission's Research and Innovation DG, attended both meetings and officially launched the work of the panel. She also presented the activities of the European Commission in STEM education and explained the motivation behind Scientix.
The fist half of the Scientix Teacher Panel met on 29 November to 1 December 2013 |
The second group came to Brussels a week later, on 6-8 December 2013. |
The level of committment and enthusiasm the teachers showed ensures that the Ambassadors and Deputy Ambassadors become a boost to Scientix. You will soon have the chance to see them speaking about Scientix at various national conferences or workshops. If you are a teacher eager to get involved in European collaboration in STEM, you can directly contact the Scientix (Deputy) Ambassador in your country/region. They would be happy to give you all the information you need.
