About
Accelerating Teaching and Scientix are proud to announce the ‘Accelerate Your Teaching MOOC: Research Facilities to Support STEM Education’. With this course, which will be held online on the European Schoolnet Academy, secondary teachers will have the opportunity to learn how to organise learning experiences centred around particle accelerators for their students. Participants will explore the wide range of applications and concepts related to accelerators as well as learn how to use stories from large facilities across Europe to teach the topics they all teach. Educators will engage in discussions about pedagogical approaches and socially relevant content for STEM interdisciplinary teaching.
Objectives
In the Accelerate Your Teaching MOOC, participants will:
- Understand the value of large facilities such as CERN in providing a context for your STEM teaching
- Learn how to engage students in modern science research through free digital tools
- Gain a well-rounded understating of how particle accelerators work, are used in society and how they contribute to modern research in all STEM subjects
- Discover different educational methodologies that stimulate students’ analytical and critical thinking skills, collaboration, communication, and active participation competencies.
Date and registration
The course will be held online from 16 October to 22 November, with an estimated workload of 25 hours.

Accelerating Teaching
Accelerating Teaching is founded to deliver a massive online open course (MOOC) where teachers can use self-directed learning to increase their knowledge and understanding of the role of large research facilities in 21st century research, and specifically on how accelerator-based facilities are used by researchers to increase knowledge.
Scientix
Scientix, the community for science education in Europe, promotes and supports a Europe-wide collaboration among STEM teachers, education researchers, policymakers and other STEM education professionals.
