Why is your company joining the STEM Alliance?

WindEurope is joining the Scientix® STEM Alliance to strengthen collaboration between the wind energy sector and the European STEM education community, and to contribute to addressing Europe’s growing STEM and skills gaps. As the voice of the wind industry in Europe, WindEurope sees the Scientix STEM Alliance as a unique platform to connect industry expertise with educators, policymakers, and Ministries of Education across Europe, coordinated by European Schoolnet®.

Through the Scientix STEM Alliance, WindEurope expects to amplify the impact of its existing education and skills initiatives by embedding them within a trusted, pan-European education ecosystem. WindEurope to share real-world examples of renewable energy and engineering directly with classrooms. This collaboration adds value by ensuring that educational resources are pedagogically sound, aligned with curricula, and responsive to teachers’ needs.

For WindEurope, joining the Scientix STEM Alliance also supports its objective of attracting young people to STEM education.. By engaging early with learners and educators, the wind industry can help inspire young people to pursue STEM studies and careers linked to the energy transition.

Why is STEM Education a priority for your company?

STEM education is a strategic priority for WindEurope because Europe’s energy transition, industrial competitiveness, and energy security depend on the availability of a highly skilled STEM workforce. The wind energy sector is expanding and requires strong capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, as well as digital and transversal skills. Without sustained investment in STEM education, Europe risks facing critical skills shortages that could slow down the deployment of renewable energy.

WindEurope’s STEM education strategy focuses on strengthening education–industry partnerships by improving educational resources and connecting schools with companies. A key challenge identified by WindEurope is that many schools struggle to link STEM subjects to real world applications, while teachers often lack access to industry relevant resources and practical learning opportunities. To address this challenge, WindEurope promotes hands on, contextualised STEM learning that connects classroom teaching with real challenges in renewable energy and sustainability.

In practice, WindEurope works with education authorities, schools, NGOs, and industry partners to co-design learning tools aligned with national curricula. Examples include primary-level STEM toolkits focused on wind energy, teacher training initiatives, site visits to wind farms, and supporting digital learning resources such as MOOCs. These initiatives aim to make STEM subjects more engaging, relevant, and inclusive, while raising awareness of career opportunities in the wind energy sector.

WindEurope also recognises the challenge of aligning education systems with fast-evolving industry needs. The organisation therefore advocates for stronger coordination between education and industry, curriculum alignment, and long-term frameworks that enable structured collaboration. By prioritising STEM education, WindEurope contributes to building a resilient, innovative, and future-oriented workforce capable of delivering Europe’s climate and energy objectives.

What does your company want to achieve with its support to the STEM Alliance?

Through its support to the Scientix STEM Alliance, WindEurope aims to contribute to strengthening the quality, relevance, and attractiveness of STEM education across Europe. A key objective is to support teachers by providing access to high-quality, industry-informed educational materials that link STEM concepts to real-world applications in renewable energy and sustainability.

WindEurope intends to share its expertise and best practices in industry–education cooperation, including hands-on learning activities, teacher toolkits, site visits, and digital learning resources. By working through the Scientix STEM Alliance, these initiatives can reach a wider audience of educators and students, while benefiting from Scientix’s pedagogical expertise and dissemination networks.

Another important focus is fostering an innovative culture and increasing the attractiveness of STEM careers related to the green transition. By showcasing role models, real-life engineering challenges, and future career pathways in wind energy, WindEurope seeks to inspire young people from diverse backgrounds to engage with STEM. Ultimately, WindEurope’s contribution to the Scientix STEM Alliance supports the shared goal of preparing learners with the skills, competences, and motivation needed for Europe’s sustainable and digital future.
