Terms and Conditions

Please read the following Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy carefully as they contain important information about your rights and responsibilities. When filling in the submission form of the Scientix app, you will be asked to consent to these policies.

 

1. Background information

European Schoolnet (legal name, EUN Partnership AISBL, EUN for short) is the network of 34 Ministries of Education (MoEs) from across Europe, leading educational innovation at European level. EUN works closely with the MoEs, the European Commission and multiple industry partners to test resources, methodologies, and technology in schools in Europe. As a major international think tank, EUN organizes professional development opportunities for teachers both face-to-face at the Future Classroom Lab and online in the EUN Academy, and coordinates studies and reports providing updates about the most recent trends and developments in education.

 

Scientix, the Community for Science Education in Europe, is an initiative of European Schoolnet that promotes and supports a Europe-wide collaboration among science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) teachers, education researchers, policymakers, and other STEM education professionals. Within this community, it has supported Ministries of Education and teachers with the collection of thousands of teaching materials from hundreds of projects, as well as capacity building actions. Scientix has a community of teachers known as Scientix ambassadors including 1300 teachers from 51 countries. Scientix has been running since 2010 organizing teacher training activities, dissemination conferences and events, and supporting the exchange of knowledge and experiences in STEM education via its portal, publications, and events.

 

2. Scientix Community Tool App

2.1 In General

Scientix Community Tool is a mobile application available on both Android and iOS platforms, designed to complement the Scientix Portal by offering enhanced community features. The app aims to empower educational professionals and teachers by providing a dynamic space for connection, collaboration, and engagement on a global scale.

 

This application is particularly tailored for Scientix Ambassadors, offering an accessible and immersive platform that highlights and recognizes the expertise of STEM educators. It also serves as a tool for collecting valuable input on STEM education topics, identifying educators' needs, and sharing opportunities to foster innovation and promote STEM education.

 

The Scientix Community Tool enables users to:

  • Endorse and showcase the skills, achievements, and expertise of STEM educators, fostering greater recognition and collaboration.
  • Expand an international network of educators.
  • Contribute insights and feedback on STEM education challenges and solutions.
  • Stay informed about opportunities to participate in educational innovation.

 

2.2. Users

A user is a person who can access content of the application without altering or adapting it. The permission to access certain pages and content depends on whether the users are members or guests of the application.

 

A guest user is a non-registered user. This user has access to public pages, such as the map and the ‘teacher of the day’ pop-up, list of user profiles, filters, the log in page as well as to all the pages in the ‘Menu’ section.

 

A member is a registered user, that has a submitted and approved profile on the app. There are two types of app members:

  • Scientix Ambassador – is a member of the app that indicated in their profile page that they are a Scientix Ambassador, by marking ‘Yes’ in the question ‘Are you a Scientix Ambassador?’ and have been approved as a member as such.
  • General member – is a member of the app that indicated in their profile page that they are not a Scientix Ambassador, by marking ‘No’ in the question ‘Are you a Scientix Ambassador?’ and have been approved as a member as such.

 

2.3. Eligibility

The App has been designed for use by teachers, educators and other educational professionals on a global scale. To ensure accurate and appropriate use, member users need to register on the Scientix Portal, and submit a profile on the Scientix Community Tool, by providing specific information regarding their employment and expertise. Approval of a user profile is contingent upon the submission of these details. Guest users don’t need to register to access to public pages.

 

2.4. How to use the Scientix Community Tool App

The following sections outline the steps that are required to use the Scientix Community Tool App (‘App’).

 

Step 1. Register to obtain your EUN ID credentials

 

In order interact with the features of the application and submit a profile, you need to be logged in. To log in, you need to have necessary EUN ID credentials and be registered on the Scientix Portal .

 

If you have not already done so, you will need to register on the Scientix Portal to obtain your EUN ID credentials. To complete the registration process, you will need to provide the information requested on the registration form, including your full name and e-mail address. You will also need to provide a username and password, which will serve as your EUN ID credentials to log into the App. The registration form is subject to the Scientix Portal Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

 

Step 2. Submit your profile

 

Once you have entered your login details, you will be taken to the ‘Profile Submission Form’ page where you can complete your profile. Once you have filled in all the required fields, you can submit the profile to the Scientix Community Tool team for review and approval.

 

While filling in the submission form, keep the following in mind:

  • Data provided in the submission form must be correct and truthful.
  • You can only upload one profile per user.
  • You can modify the profile if any aspect of it needs to be updated or corrected.

 

If your profile is approved, you will be able to use all the features of the App. If your profile is rejected and you do not agree with this decision, please contact us: scientix@eun.org.

 

Step 3. Navigate the different features

 

Once your profile is approved, you are free to navigate and interact with all the features of the app, facilitating connections with other users or discovering interesting opportunities. Should you encounter any irregularities or believe that a feature is not functioning as intended, please contact us: scientix@eun.org.

 

2.5. Restrictions and prohibited actions

While filling in the submission form, you will be presented with the following statement: “I agree to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of the Scientix Community Tool.” By ticking the “Yes, I agree” box, you confirm that, in addition to the information presented above, you understand and agree to the following:

  • If you choose to upload an image when submitting the profile, it should only show your personal image and any IPRs over the image should be owned by you. You can always choose not to upload an image, as this is an optional field.
  • If the image you are submitting is not your personal property, make sure the image does not infringe any third-party IPRs and that you have obtained all necessary rights and licenses from third parties as the IPRs holders before using the image in your profile.
  • EUN does not assume any responsibility for disputes between individuals claiming IPRs of the content published by the users when submitting their profiles. For more information, please see the section ‘3.3. Copyright’ .
  • If you wish to upload a profile image where your students or other individuals are clearly identified, it is imperative that you ensure the face of each person, particularly that of a child, is either blurred or that the image is captured from an angle that prevents the identification of the individual(see Figure 1). Profile submissions failing to meet these specified criteria will not be considered eligible for the App.

2.6. Terminating a user account

EUN reserves the right to terminate any user’s account in the event of a breach of any of the considerations mentioned in these Terms and Conditions, as well as any other aspect contrary to the values advocated by Scientix. EUN will also automatically terminate accounts that manifest any form of political indications, hacking, harassment, illegal use, spamming, or any other action of questionable morality or legality, or if the content contains defamatory, discriminatory, or other illegal material, or does not comply with national legislation.

 

2.7. Acceptance of these Terms and Conditions

To be eligible to have your profile approved, it is mandatory that you agree to these Terms and Conditions by ticking the “Yes, I Agree” box to the statement “I agree to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of the Scientix Community Tool.”

 

3.Terms of Use

3.1 In General

EUN is established in Brussels, Belgium, and Belgian laws apply to any use of the App.

 

All users must comply with European, Belgian and national laws of the countries where they reside including, but not limited to, data protection laws, IPRs laws, as well as laws prohibiting the publication of any defamatory, discriminatory or other illegal content. Users will be fully responsible to EUN for any breach of such laws caused by their actions or omissions, as well as for any direct and indirect damages to third parties, and will hold EUN harmless for any legal actions brought by third parties.

 

3.2 Disclaimer

EUN accepts no responsibility or liability in relation to the information on the App and reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to suspend, change, modify, add or remove features or portions of the App at any time. This disclaimer is not intended to limit liability in contravention of any requirements laid down in applicable national law nor to exclude its liability for matters which may not be excluded under such law.  

 

The Scientix Community Tool is provided “as is” and “as available” – without expressed or implied warranty. EUN e does not guarantee that the App will meet your requirements, be uninterrupted or free from errors. In the event of an error, users can write to scientix@eun.org. However, the user acknowledges that the App may have technical problems and that EUN is under no obligation to correct defects or update the features.

 

3.3 Copyright

By agreeing to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of the Scientix Community Tool, users acknowledge that EUN shall have the right to make the content freely available on the app or in any other media format, under the Creative Commons License of ‘Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International’ (CC BY-SA 4.0). This allows EUN and third parties to copy, redistribute, as well as adapt and change the provided content for any purposes, including commercial, while providing appropriate credit to the author and indicating the changes made. Details of this license can be found at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/.

 

Please be aware that if you intend to use any copyrighted material (images, music or video) you must either own the copyright for the material or have written permission from the author to use the material. EUN reserves the right to request clarification from the users on the copyright of materials submitted to the App. EUN reserves the right to terminate any profile submitted if it comes to their knowledge that there are copyright infringements.

 

By agreeing to the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of the Scientix Community Tool, users acknowledge that EUN may freely use the content of their entry in all media formats in promotional Scientix activities.

 

3.4 Trademark and logos

Scientix is a European Union trademark registered by the European Union Intellectual Property Office under the name of EUN. Please note that use of the App does not imply any right or license to use any of the logos or trademarks that appear on it. Such usage is always subject to the express written approval of EUN. Breach of this requirement may involve the imposition of penalties or damages against the infringer.
