It's really useful.
I found this definition in the ppt and I like very much the word passion. I think it is the most important word in the field of education and teaching

I have a very good example of the effects of addressing municipalities. An association called Cel Fosc (Dark sky),

they use to follow that procedure, by writing letters to the local giovernment responsibles and suggesting them to turn off lights or modify the lamp designs. In fact, it is called an association against luminic contamination.

Great! I have located the letter to the municipality. I'll translate it and send it. I hoe it works as well as other people report in the web.
Certainly, light contamination is an issue that students have to understand and act upon.

And I have also participated in other Communities of Practice. One of them, a very useful one, was a team of colleagues at a large school, who met regularly to exchange teaching ideas, materials, problems, readings, etc.

And I also believe that competitios like the one just annonced by Google, a Science Fair

are excellent opportunities to do curricular or extra-curricuar projects with our students.
I am sure that many EU projects where EUN participates or participated in the past, include such competitions nd I assume they are quite motivating for our students.

Furthermore, it would be interesting to discuss the differences among formal education, non formal education and informal education. In Science, in particular, one would like to know where misconceptions, for instance, arise fundamentally, is it from no-formal educational environments? Is it from our science classes?

I read recently that not only misconceptions are difficult to change, but that they fluctuate, and students change a fraction of their beliefs from time to time.

Do you know of any study of Inquiry Based methods and change of students misconceptions in Science?

I've seen a lot on CoP (Communities of Practice) in the big-business sector. Apparently Wenger did a lot of work in that area. How about CoP in the educational sector?

Valeria, I believe they are. COnferences, Seminars, etc. are all valuable resources to get students (and parent and even grandparents!) interested in Science, don't you think?

Hands-on activities were done before...they come to a result after the data analise at the energy consumption by the school.
The idea is with that document, students can discuss and present their results to the authorities and parents.

During the presentation they also can learn something (e.g. what measures should be implemented? will municipality do something and how?). The same at their homes discussing the subject with their relatives.

With the GP Energy Consumption - what can we do? students have to write a document to sensitize the educational community to reduce the energy consumption, both at school and home.

We look to that activity as a Collaboration with informal education since students out of school environment will be in touch with information that could be relevant to their learning process.

This is a great idea! Do you think to plan some hands-on activities during the presentation of the document?
