Nowadays, education is in constant development. New pedagogical approaches as well as innovative technologies are constantly landing in the classroom and it is always important to keep up to date about the new educational trends.

One of these innovate approaches is what has been labeled as flipped Learning and it is commonly defined as a "pedagogical approach in which direct instruction moves from the group learning space to the individual learning space. Therefore, the resulting group space is transformed into a dynamic, interactive learning environment where the educator guides students as they apply concepts and engage creatively in the subject".

In this Community of Practice we will discuss the topic of Flipped Clasrroms, its benefits and disadvantages, the tools you need to implement it and the changing role of both teachers and students. Enjoy!

EXPERTS

Tatjana Gulič is a Scientix Ambassador and a teacher of maths and physics in primary school (12-15 years old student). She has many years of teaching experience and also the In-Service Training of Students in classroom. She worked several years with National Institute od Education on curriculum for physics. She is coauthor of physics textbooks and workbooks for students in primary school.

Juan Ángel Vaquerizo Gallego is astrophysicist and Science Education specialist. After more than 15 years as Science teacher at Secondary and High School levels, in 2007 he joined the PARTNeR Project (http://partner.cab.inta-csic.es/) first as Educational Coordinator, and after as Project Manager. PARTNeR (Proyecto Académico con el Radio Telescopio de NASA en Robledo, Educational Project with NASA’s Radio telescope at Robledo) is an educational project that uses an extraordinary resource as educational tool: a 34-meter parabolic antenna from NASA that can be remotely controlled for students to perform radio astronomical observations. From their Schools, and using an Internet connection, students have the opportunity to operate the radio telescope as professional radio astronomers do, participating in a real scientific research.
Since 2009 is also working in the Scientific Literacy Department at the Spanish Center for Astrobiology (CSIC-INTA), where he combines his work in PARTNeR with other educational projects (CESAR - Cooperation Through Education in Science and Astronomy Research, http://cesar-programme.cab.inta-csic.es/; MeteoMarte – Mars Weather in Schools; GLORIA -GLObal Robotic-telescopes Intelligent Array, http://gloria-project.eu/en/) and the development of Training Teachers Workshops and Education and Public Outreach activities regarding robotic astronomy and radio astronomy, astrobiology, planetology and general science.

COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

The Scientix Communities of Practice (CoP) entail a moderated online forum, leaded by a designated expert, where STEM teachers will be able to discuss on science and technology subjects.

In this space you will find a basic presentation on the topic, paired with a series of useful resources as topic guidelines. Participants will find an array of open questions to inquire and discuss about.

The objective of the CoP is to let the participants engage and discuss with each other on those questions they are more interested in, to end up formulating a series of final ideas or conclusions.
