Cross-Curricular Approaches to Mathematics and Sciences in Formal and Informal Contexts
The main aim of this project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, is to develop basic and transversal skills and raise the students’ learning motivation by using innovative cross-curricular approaches for studying mathematics and exact sciences.
The main aim of this project is to develop basic and transversal skills and raise the students’ learning motivation by using innovative cross-curricular approaches for studying mathematics and exact sciences. More specifically, the project aims at:
- addressing the problem of students’ low achievement and increasing the learning motivation of around 350 students through cross-curricular methods and flexible learning pathways, which facilitate students’ control of their own learning and foster their creativity;
- developing IT-related skills of around 700 students and 140 teachers through e-learning and other approaches;
- developing the thinking skills of around 350 students, who apply the knowledge and skills learned in one subject to another in practical activities and synthesise information through monthly activities such as workshops and thematic contests in online and paper formats;
- developing the linguistic abilities of around 700 students in English and the mother tongues of the project’s partners through online and direct communications;
- contributing to the professional development of at least 70 teachers, who expand their knowledge and develop their skills by using innovative teaching and managing the project’s activities;
- joining experiences and developing a training kit – including a course, syllabus, methodological tools, video guides and tests – of cross-curricular approaches, which is made available free of charge;
- organising courses to instruct 70 students to become peer-trainers and contributing to the professional development of 140 teachers;
- fostering the social skills of around 700 students and 140 teachers through collaboration;
- introducing peer-based education, to develop the leadership skills of at least 70 students;
- enriching the school curriculum with other two optional courses; and finally:
- raising the prestige of the project’s schools in their local communities, by improving the quality of education.
Among the activities planned as part of the project are various online contests for students that demand and develop competences in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). The introduction of a peer-training system among the project’s partnering schools also contributes to the sustainability of the project from within. The project’s activities are carried out in both formal and informal settings and contexts.

During the school year 2017-18, the Romanian coordinator of this project already implemented two optional courses with the two optional syllabuses developed as part of the project. These optional syllabuses make use of all the knowledge and experience gained from the project and are useful for transmitting knowledge and skills to students, trainees and all other stakeholders, in line with the project’s objectives.
Among the main intellectual outputs of the project is a training kit that includes a student’s book of cross-curricular activities, a methodological guide for cross-curricular activities and two video guides. The following outputs of the project are available for download.
