Wetenschap op stap
Invite a scientist to your class.
VIB started a new initiative in September 2012, targeting 5th and 6th grade pupils. With ‘Science on the move’ (Wetenschap op Stap), VIB targets the final two years of primary school. The classes are visited by a scientist who tells them all about his or her world of work. The VIB website provides themes and information on the speakers for teachers and their students to choose from.
Registrations can no longer be submitted, as the project is already fully booked.
Basic information
At this age, pupils need to decide what they would like to study in second grade, and therefore it’s the perfect opportunity to provide them with a trigger to opt for science studies. In the first two years of this project, VIB had already reached 3,475 pupils.
Teachers take the initiative to apply with their class. A scientist will visit the class and explain why he or she decided to become a scientist and what the job entails, in a highly interactive way. It is expected that the pupils be well prepared for the visit. Therefore additional information on various themes covered by the speakers is provided on the VIB website.
