Forum of new researchers: "Students experimenting"

Students independently do practical environmental research and experiments, which are later presented in conferences in their municipality. The best of them are sent to participate in the closing forum in Riga, Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Latvia.

There a scientific conference is held within the forum and the participants are asked to present their research, experiments and observations in 7 to 10 minutes. Alongside with that the participants have a chance to have a glimpse of what experiments the scientists are doing.

Aims:

  • Encourage students’ interest in environmental studies
  • Popularise research amongst students
  • Expand and activate environmental studies work within educational institutions

Participants:

Students of general, special and interest education institutions (up to the 9th grade) who have done practical environment connected research, observations or experiments. It can be done both individually or in a group (one study can be done by no more than 3 people).

Process:

January-February – conferences in regions
March – a forum in Riga

Organisers: National Centre for Education in collaboration with Children and Youth Environmental Education Centre “Riga School of Natural Sciences”, University of Latvia, Faculty of Chemistry, local education agencies and educational institutions.
