Science4kids
Learn interesting facts about blood.
Science4kids is a project which runs in collaboration with the Nature & Science (Natuur & Wetenschap) association and is aimed at youngsters from the sixth year of primary education (aged 11-12). This project is principally constructed around subjects relating to blood. In the period 2010 – 2014, VIB reached about 6,225 pupils with this project.
Registrations can no longer be submitted, as the project is already fully booked.
Basic information
International studies show that the interest in science is created at a younger age (11 to 12 years old). If children do not get an introduction to science at a young age, they will have less interest in science and will be less motivated to choose a scientific education. VIB organised this project to give 12-year-old students the opportunity to explore a scientific topic in a fun and stimulating way.
The project consists of two parts: teachers can download the educational tools from the VIB website and prepare the project in the class. Afterwards, a member of Natuur en Wetenschap will visit the school and guide the class through several scientific experiments.
Finally, teachers are encouraged to create their own “blood” project in the class such as organising exhibition or a demonstration or creating a piece of art.
Documentation to support the lessons:
- Lesson material “Bloed” for students, a course on the different aspects of blood.
- Lesson material “Bloed” for teachers, contains the answers to the questions in the Lesson materials for students.
