ROBOTOR, International Robotics Trophy Robotor
Robotor promotes science and technology among the primary secondary school students, girls and boys, through robotics competitions.
Robotics integrates knowledge and skills from the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths fields and prepares young people both for life and for the labour market. The contests proved to be one of the best ways to develop robotics activities at pre-university level. After some local robotics competitions organised at Clubul Copiilor Orsova during 2007, we decided to start Robotics Trophy Robotor, which was the first Romanian robotics competition for primary and secondary school students. The purpose of Robotor Trophy is to promote science and technology among primary and secondary school students, girls and boys, and among the general public, through robotics competitions. There are two events: a robotics competition and a robotics symposium.
Robotor has been included yearly in the Educational Activities Calendar of the Romanian Ministry of Education as a regional, national, or international project. There have been a regional edition (2008), five national editions (2009, 2010, and 2012-2014), and two international editions (2011, 2015). The 2013 and 2014 editions were organised in Botosani, in cooperation with Palatul Copiilor Botoșani. From one edition to the next, the robotics contests have diversified and the organisation improved.
While some similar Romanian competitions have appeared (e.g. “Cupa Chindiei” in 2010, and “Robogal” in 2013), Robotor Trophy is still unique in the number of contests, the originality of some of the contests, and the contests’ rules, which stimulate the creativity of the students and not just the use of commercial solutions.
