SEEP: Science Education European Platform
The SEEP network brings together science teachers and professionals to shape the future of science education. It aims to find innovative and attractive ways of teaching science, including both forecasting and career guidance.
SEEP, Science Education European Platform, is a network of science teachers, teacher trainers, career guidance professionals and policy makers in education. Members of the network work and learn together for the benefit of their students who are interested in a career in science. The network activities include online discussion forums, as well as research and training workshops.
The main issues of SEEP are:
- As mentors for students in the choice of a career, the teachers in the SEEP network share and exchange ideas and materials about how to make science education more attractive and how to widen students’ vision of science subjects.
- SEEP helps teachers to keep up with the constant and rapid changes in science education and supports teachers’ professional development.
- Networking with others always creates opportunities to learn from others.
The SEEP network aims to become a network relevant for its members, their peers and organizations, and also for the wider communities of its members. The network is open for new individual and institutional members who want to become mentors and positive players in the future of their students of science.

SEEP simultaneously promotes educational innovation and best practice as well as facilitating and enhancing European co-operation in science education and guidance at secondary school level.
One of the activities concerns European research, comparative analyses and case studies linked to innovation in science education and guidance – conducted by European thematic working groups through participatory research or by reviewing existing knowledge bases according to the topic.
The topics of the research and the related reports will be as follows:
- Inventory of students’ learning styles and their linkage to science aptitudes and career choice in science.
- Present and future science applications in Europe: foreseeing future scenarios and applications.
- Science labour market trends and opportunities in Europe, linked to forecasting.
- European innovative approaches and methodologies in science education and career guidance at secondary level.
In addition, SEEP will produce annual reports on the state of innovation in science education in a European context, including the most important information and conclusions of the above mentioned topics.
Electronic versions of the research and annual reports will be available on the SEEP web portal at a later stage.
SEEP offers a wide range of materials and resources shared by its members for its members through the SEEP platform.
The teaching materials, such as didactic file archives and audiovisual resources, show different and innovative work and approaches in the science field. The project provides a database of examples of good practices and ideas on how to teach science in an interesting and creative way.
The portal gives a list of web links to science teaching databases, events, networks and portals as well as partner organisations. Besides useful newspaper and magazine articles that inform about important developments and innovations, the website also hosts documents that present an online set of tools for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, forms for collecting data and toolkits for creating e-learning activities.
Additionally, the SEEP platform provides interactive, guided discussion forums, where teachers and trainers can share experiences on different teaching materials, the use of new media resources in science education, cross and extra-curricular activities and many more.
