rAn project, Raising awareness about natural disasters through the development of best practices and serious games

$image_alt.data

Teach your students and educate your community on how to be prepared for natural disasters through the use of a digital educational game.

Environmental deterioration and pollution as well as other man-made factors have contributed to the increase of natural disasters, whose consequences not only affect infrastructure and property but also cause massive loss of human life. Children are one of the most vulnerable social groups faced with a natural threat, but if informed, they can be more prepared and also constitute a powerful aid by informing their families on how to react on such occasions.

The rAn project assists children in primary education to cope with these emergency situations, by offering a serious game to raise their awareness about natural disasters and emergency preparedness. The main objective of the game is for the player to learn about natural disasters and protect a city through the knowledge acquired. The game is based on a dynamic storyboard supported by interactive elements such as quizzes, puzzles and mini-games. Along with the serious game, the team has developed a Facilitator’s Guide which provides a full overview of all the game features and learning sheets that help better assimilate the learning. The team also offers training and support on the implementation of the project.
