Third Science projects workshop in the FCL

The 3rd Science Projects Workshop in the Future Classroom Lab (SPW@FCL) took place February 14 - 16, 2014. The workshop marked the completion of the Global-excursion project and its main access point, the Virtual Science Hub (ViSH).

The ViSH contains a selection of e-Infrastructures, a social network, where scientists and teachers are able to exchange and establish collaborations; and a virtual excursion room, where pupils are able to experience real e-science applications in areas of high relevance for the future (e.g. Nano- and bio-technologies, volunteer computing, and life sciences).

32 people participated in the GLOBAL excursion final event and one of the highlights was the Award Ceremony of the ViSH 2013 Competition, which was followed live through video streaming, with more than 300 connections.

Mr. José Cotta, Head of the Digital Science Unit of the European Commission, presented the certificates and prizes to the winners. According to the Coordinator of Global excursion: ‘[t]he Head of Unit was impressed by the project and wants to promote it now as an example of a successful project’.

The workshop also included the 3rd Scientix Teachers Kick-off, as well as Go-Lab and inGenious workshops for Belgian teachers and a nanOpinion presentation.
