How does human behaviour – in particular, following procedures – affect health and safety in the workplace? This resource introduces the work of Dr S. Camille Peres, based at Texas A&M University in the US, an expert in human factors whose research is centred on understanding how human behaviour can lead to incidents in high-risk industries. This resource includes an interview with Dr Peres and an insight into how to pursue a career in human factors and ergonomics. It also includes an activity sheet, containing ‘thinking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on Dr Pere’s work and activities that students can do at home or in class.
