Description
How can we draw meaningful conclusions from massive datasets? This teaching resource introduces students to the work of Dr Eric Chi, a data scientist from North Carolina State University in the US, who discovers the patterns and information hidden in data. From analysing how senators vote to consumer film preferences to helping neuroscientists better understand the brain, the scope of Dr Chi’s work is wide and varied. This resource includes an interview with Dr Chi and an insight into how to become a data scientist. It also includes an activity sheet, containing ‘thinking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on Dr Chi’s work and activities that students can do at home or in class.
