15th Scientix Projects' Networking Event:

Sustainability of Projects

The 15th Scientix Projects' Networking Event on "Sustainability of Projects" was held at National University of Ireland, Galway, on 24 May 2019 from 9:30 to 15:30 (GMT+1).

SPNE15

More and more projects need to think about their sustainability beyond the initial funding even before starting the development of the outputs. However, what does sustainability of a project mean? Moreover, how can we achieve it, when funding is reduced and there are so many outputs available?

The 15th Scientix Projects’ Networking Event (SPNE15) brought together project and organisation representatives active in STEM education projects to discuss these concerns and explore best practices in ensuring some sustainability of their results.

26 participants, including experts, and project and organisation representatives working on the topic, as well as researchers, policy makers, teachers, SMEs who are involved in STEM education projects benefitting from public or private funding joined the discussions.

The aim of this SPNE15 co-organized by Scientix and Cell Explorers was:

  • To share the results of different projects (that “should” become sustainable).
  • To discuss what is meant by sustainability, problems to achieve it and tips to succeed.
  • To provide an overview of the problem with the sustainability of projects, and define a set of recommendations of follow up actions to ensure the sustainability of STEM education projects and their results.

The organisers collected ideas, comments and general conclusions agreed between participants during the workshop. The results of the discussion will be published in a Scientix Observatory article co-authored by all participants.
