MAKASH

MAKASH pioneered ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) applications in education, culture and science in Israel. It ran the first large scale community networking project in Israel in 1989.

Today it continues to have a leading role animating learning communities; introducing innovative technologies in Israel as part of the Semantic Web vision; improving access to learning resources, to cultural content, and promoting the development of open scholarly communities online. Its mission is to contribute to the advancement of Israel society through the application of advanced technologies in education culture and science.

MAKASH took the initiative in 1998 for the inclusion of Israel in the European Schoolnet (EUN). The Ministry of Education in 2013 proposed the signature of MOU establishing MAKASH at its NCP for EU European related educational initiatives and representing Israel in the EUN. Besides Scientix, MAKASH is presently active iTEC, inGenious, and eSkills 2014.

MAKASH is promoting the application of digitisation for cultural heritage. It is an active member of the Europeana Network and is associated with projects like Judaica Europeana; ATHENA - access to cultural heritage networks across Europe; and others. It participates in several COST actions including: Open Scholarly Communities on the Web (A32); Interedition - Interoperable Supranational Infrastructure for Digital Editions; In search of transcultural memory in Europe (IS1203); People Friendly Cities in a Data Rich World (TU1204).
