The GIREP-ICPE-EPEC-MPTL Eötvös Year 2019 International Conference is held from 1 to 5 July in Budapest, Hungary. The main theme of the conference is “Research and practice in physics education to celebrate Eötvös’ centenary”.

Roland Eötvös (1848-1919) was a famous Hungarian physicist whose main achievement was to demonstrate the strict proportionality between inertial and gravitational mass with unprecedented precision. This result became a strong basis of general relativity. UNESCO has decided to commemorate the centenary of his death in 2019 and that’s why the conference is also associated with the Eötvös Year.

The conference is an opportunity not only to present the results of scientific work but also to communicate and discuss common research topics and best practices with colleagues.

The event is jointly organised by:

  • International Research Group on Physics Teaching (GIREP)
  • European Physical Society, Physics Education Division (EPS PED)
  • International Conference on Physics Education (ICPE) of Commission C14 of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP)
  • Multimedia in Physics Teaching and Learning (MPTL)
  • Roland Eötvös Physical Society, Hungary (ELFT)
  • Institute for Computer Science and Control, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA SZTAKI)
  • Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary (BME)
