In this webinar, find out how you can make global connections to STEM in your classroom and educational programmes with DESIGN SQUAD GLOBAL, an Emmy Award-winning website with hands-on activities, design challenges, and streaming videos designed to increase kids’ understanding of engineering.
Participants will learn about the project’s new outreach initiative called Design Squad Global (DSG) CLUBS, which provide young people aged 10-13 with an opportunity to work alongside a group of their peers from another country to explore engineering and invention through hands-on design challenges that tackle real-world issues. In the process of sharing their ideas and exchanging feedback with their partner club, children develop “global competency” – the ability to communicate and collaborate with people from different backgrounds, cultures and perspectives.
This webinar will detail how to bring DSG Clubs to your school or community, and the support and resources available for educators who are interested in getting involved.
About the presenter:
Saranya Sathananthan is the Outreach Project Manager for Design Squad Global at WGBH Educational Foundation. She manages the program’s outreach to national and international educational partners and supports Design Squad Global clubs in the US by facilitating their matching and collaboration with international clubs. She also provides expertise in design engineering content and runs training courses for formal and informal educators at workshops and conferences. She holds a BS degree in Materials Science and Engineering and received her Master’s in Bioengineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to her work at WGBH, she served in the US Peace Corps and taught Computer Technology at an Industrial Professional school in Mozambique.
