Bioeconomy is an exciting emerging field which covers a wide range of sectors and systems - from agriculture and the agri-food industry, to fisheries, forestry, bio refineries, chemistry, and (bio) energy - basically everything we can produce with biomass. The use of renewable resources is one of the reasons why bioeconomy is gaining increasingly more attention in recent years. As ongoing fossil fuel extraction releases more carbon in the atmosphere, a bio-based economy which focuses on replacing fossil fuels and materials production with renewable biomass can contribute to reducing the current environmental and climate problems. Join us on Friday, 22 November, from 17:00 CET to explore ways in bringing bioeconomy into your lessons with the help of the BLOOM project! The webinar will feature presentations from three BLOOM Expert teachers, authors of some of the bioeconomy teaching materials included in the BLOOM School Box, who will share their experiences, challenges and success stories of bringing bioeconomy in their teaching.

About the presenters:

Eirini Siotou has studied Physics and has a Master's degree in Science Education and Digital Educational Technology. She is a Science teacher of the Greek and the A Level (Cambridge Assessment International Education) program at Nea Genia Ziridis (NGZ) School, in Athens. She is the Head of the Science Department at her school, being responsible for the instructional design of the Science curriculum and the coordination of the department. Previously, she has worked as a Science Communicator at At-Bristol Science Center, an interactive Science museum in Bristol, as well as a Science Teacher in the UK. She has experience of different European Erasmus+ and eTwinning projects as well as organising networking events.

José Fradique is a Scientix Ambassador. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Portuguese Association for Biology and Geology Teachers (APPBG). He led the authorship team for Core Curriculum Competences for Life and Earth Sciences in the Portuguese Upper Secondary level. At his school (with a STEM School Proficient Label), he teaches Biology and Geology, is the Head of the Mathematics and Experimental Sciences Department and he coordinated many awarded STEM projects. He has been engaging his students to design and develop STEM projects.

Marta Azevedois a Scientix Ambassador in Portugal. She has a postgraduate degree in Science Communication and actively collaborates in scientific events promoted by Ciência Viva – the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture in Portugal. She represented Portugal at the international science communication event Famelab. At her school, she coordinates many awarded scientific projects.
