Webinar outline:

Using social media in schools can be met with apprehension but it can also bring engagement and authentic learning opportunities. This webinar introduces the use of social media in the context of science learning and teaching: from small, free, tools to conducting larger collaborative science investigations. At the same time, participants will learn about different aspects of using social media in the classroom, such as internet safety and privacy.

About the presenter:

Fiona Luna graduated from Glasgow University in 1998 with a degree in electronic engineering. After a number of years working in industry she decided to change careers, first working in Special Needs education before qualifying to teach physics, general science and ICT in 2006. Since then she has worked in schools in the United Kingdom, USA and Sweden. She currently works in a bilingual school in southern Sweden, delivering science lessons in English. Since 2013 Fiona has been the Scientix Deputy Ambassador in Sweden. She has been interested in the effective use of ICT and language development in the science classroom for many years and has presented her work at many events, including Science on Stage 2013.
